ting-a-ling!

November 23rd, 2008 by kevin

i’ve been writing a paper on kurt vonnegut lately. what a guy. if chapter 34 of timequake doesn’t make you weep like a baby, you’re a fucking ass hole.

here’s a little audio clip from a short retrospective npr did on him.

art.

it’s an instinctive, irrational process.

i actually thought about him a lot in the days following the election, about the chapters later in Timequake when he talks about the lincoln’s speeches and assassination.
    what a bad ass.

kurt vonnegut was the only writer i ever sent a fan letter to. i’d never done it before that time and i’ve never done it since. i remember exactly how it read: “Dear Mr. Vonnegut, Thank you. Sincerely, Nader M.” kinda silly, but what do you expect? i think i was around 20 at the time and i’d buy his books second hand for a buck at the valencia thrift store across the street from the elbo room.

hooch, i don’t think i mentioned this earlier, but thanks for the public support of the show.

You could write to his son, Mark. He lives in Milton, MA. I’m fond of The Eden Express, Mark’s memoir about insanity. My psych students love it.

interesting, i’ve been thinking that would be a good read. that’s cool your students like it. good work suggestion, jen beck. i trust you’re tripping your brains out now, so i’ll leave you with this: site two of ‘are you experienced?’ will cure what ails you in your present state …
