dude, artie was all state baseball in new jersey. and a good basketball player, too. two of my favorite artie moments (both involving his hyper-masculine, jersey schtick): 1) the show was in las vegas, and there was a woman trying to become a major league baseball pitcher. artie made some bet that she couldn't strike him out or something. so they send artie and her out to a baseball field with a remote camera and mic. artie sets his jack and coke down on home plate. digs in. takes the first pitch. hits the second pitch over the left field wall. 2) wnba player comes in to the studio. artie challenges her to a little one on one. she accepts. artie beats her 11-1.

Since New Years, I've gotten into the bad habit of staying up doing reading/work 'til midnight or so.
Then I obsess on the jigsaw puzzle we started during break for an hour or so to unwind.
In the background is usually the History Channel or a movie on HBO.
Last night I found Beer League (only the very end, unfortunately.)
Not exactly The Godfather, but not a bad ending for a movie about a slow pitch league.
The soundtrack was good classic rock tunes, and I noticed a couple by Robert Pollard during the credits.
Best of all was seeing Artie. He looked so young. I would have sworn this was from the Mad TV days, but it was released in '06, during what I assume was a dry period for him.
He ran spritely (for Artie) around the bases and even hit a couple of bombs. (He may have had some help from the cameras, but his swing was smooth and he made good contact.)
Heroin is a bitch.
