big storm coming.

hopefully it’s just the hyperbolic rhetorical bile of spineless politicians fearful of getting left holding the bag of death soaked floodwater, but they have sounded the alarm down here. tomorrow at 4 a.m. all of the gulf coast of mississippi and louisiana are under mandatory evacuation. they basically shut down the highways going south and all traffic comes north … through here.

today was lovely, calm, serene. not even too hot. lsu gave division 2 appalachian state an early morning smack down. i watched for about ten minutes at stan and joans (i’m trying.) took the dog for a few walks around the neighborhood, and, except for the ice run stan and i made this morning, the day was nothing out of the ordinary (although the fact that the shell station where we got the ice was already completely out of gas added to the eeriness that is starting to lurk around the town’s edges.)

nothing seems to be happening that would indicate that a truly massive hurricane is bearing down on us. makes you wonder what people did before all this technology. one minute it’s nice, the next you notice a little wind, and the next your little mud and thatch sorry excuse for a primitive shelter is up your wife’s ass as your kids and livestock float away in the storm surge. didn’t see that one coming …

i log on to tigertv every few hours just to make sure everything’s still a go. sure enough, still a big storm coming. still coming right towards the house. i got my batteries out and my candles. coupla cans of soup and some crackers. i definitely need to get more beer tomorrow, but other than that, we’re looking alright. no idea how long a hurricane lasts, but today i started thinking that i’m gonna be a bit hesitant to take lefty outside to pee during the high winds. seems like a dachshund, even one built like a brick shit house like lefty, could take flight in a hurricane …

To somewhere safer
where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
I’m getting blown away.

luckily, my house is up on blocks and it doesn’t flood here. our levee is better then that shit they have down in new orleans, too. so surges, hopefully, no problem. high winds combined with 150 year old trees. that’s our problem in southdowns. love these trees, but there’s a very real possibility that one of these storms is going to put one of these beautiful trees in somebody’s living room.

you are sweet … i used the force when i was almost home to direct me back to your house. the scrabble winner can’t afford to not have a cell phone through his first major hurricane. it’s just not proper …
