10:00 pm. Dallas. Art Museum & Farmer’s Market.

July 1st, 2008 by kevincasper

dallas has a nice art museum and a hell of a farmer’s market. first tuesday of the month means they open up the museums across the nation for the huddled masses to come in and get their art on.

i spent a few hours cruising around the collection musing about my future plans. i love going to museums and movies by myself because i hate the obligatory conversations. ‘what other movies has she been in?’ ‘do you like jackson pollock?’ ‘is that impressionism or post-impressionism?’ ‘where are the shitters in this place?’ i just like to wander and get lost and trip out. sometimes i know what i’m looking at. usually i don’t. i know what i like, though. i should have photographed the informational placards to better enlighten and inform for y’all. next time.

they had a really nice collection of african art and art from the south pacific. this one was my favorite … i’m trying out the thumbnail angle for a few of these. a click = BIGGER.

you gotta love the eyes on this one, and the fact that he’s holding his schwanz.

papa new guinea

this guy kinda looks like a regal and refined baba booey.

this was apparently a buddhist piece, but it looks pretty hindu to me. but what do i know? supposedly this depicts two entities that reached nirvana via ecstasy. they fucked their way to enlightenment. sounds radical. sign me up, baby. you know those people, though, don’t you? those friends who are a little more horny than the rest of us, and it’s clear that the only way they’re ever gonna find it is in the sack. it’s just their mission in life. period. god bless ‘em, though … more power to ya’. i’ll be over here waiting for my frozen pizza to crisp up in the toaster oven.

don’t fuck with the guy with the tusk face on his scabbard. if you’re ever in central illinois, don’t flip a guy off in a late model camaro, either.

great painting called “that man” (i think). a portrait of the lovely working class gentleman who lived next door. glad somebody is documenting him …

anyway, it was lovely.

farmer’s market … what’s not to love?

like everything else around here, the market’s huge.

there’s acres of this stuff … and you can drive right through these giant barns. pretty cool. no spaghetti squash, though, so it ain’t all that.

gotta say, though, downtown dallas is alright. clean and manageable and mellow. just don’t ride around in a convertible. bad juju …
